How to Get a POC (Pakistan Origin Card)

Not a Pakistani citizen anymore but have Pakistani roots? The POC lets you live, work, and own property in Pakistan. Here's how to apply from abroad.

Overseas1–2 hours online + embassy visit💰 USD 100–150
  • Foreign country passport (currently valid)
  • Evidence of Pakistani origin: parent/grandparent's CNIC or old Pakistani passport
  • Birth certificate showing Pakistani parentage (if applicable)
  • Recent passport-size photograph (white background)
  • Proof of current foreign address
  • NADRA online account at id.nadra.gov.pk
1
Confirm eligibility
POC is for former Pakistani citizens who have acquired foreign nationality, and their children/grandchildren. If you are still a Pakistani national, you need NICOP, not POC. If you hold dual nationality (which Pakistan does not officially recognise), check with NADRA whether you qualify.
2
Gather proof of Pakistani origin
You need documentary evidence linking you to Pakistan. This can be your own old Pakistani passport, your parent's CNIC, a birth certificate showing a Pakistani parent, or similar documents. NADRA cross-references these against their database.
3
Apply online via NADRA portal
Go to id.nadra.gov.pk, create an account, and select 'POC' under services. Upload your foreign passport, origin documents, and photograph. Pay the fee online — NADRA accepts international debit/credit cards.
4
Visit a Pakistani embassy or consulate
POC applicants must complete biometric verification at a Pakistani embassy or consulate in person. Book an appointment online before visiting. Bring original documents — NADRA staff at the embassy will scan and verify them.
5
Receive your POC
After biometric verification, your POC is processed in Islamabad and mailed to your embassy or to your overseas address, depending on what you selected. Processing typically takes 4–8 weeks.
  • POC holders can buy and sell property in Pakistan without a No-Objection Certificate
  • POC is valid for life — it does not expire like NICOP
  • POC does not give you voting rights in Pakistan
  • Children born to POC holders abroad are also eligible for POC
  • If your parents are deceased, you can still prove origin via old documents — contact NADRA helpline for guidance
What is the difference between NICOP and POC?
NICOP is for Pakistani nationals living abroad — they are still Pakistani citizens. POC is for people who were Pakistani but gave up citizenship (e.g. naturalised in the US, UK, etc.) and their descendants.
Can I work in Pakistan with a POC?
Yes. POC holders have the right to live and work in Pakistan without a work permit. They can also open bank accounts and own property.
Does POC allow visa-free entry to Pakistan?
Yes. POC holders do not need a visa to enter Pakistan. You present your POC and foreign passport at immigration.
My grandfather was Pakistani but I was born abroad. Can I get a POC?
Yes, Pakistani origin extends to grandchildren. You will need your grandfather's CNIC or Pakistani passport as part of your application.
